Slater and Gordon is proud to sponsor the National Family Liaison Officer Conference 2021.
Slater and Gordon is one of the UK’s largest consumer law firms with offices across England, Scotland and Wales. We’ve been working with Family Liaison, Roads Policing and officers from senior ranks for many years, providing legal support for members of the public in their time of need. You may know Slater and Gordon because of our long association with The Police Federation. We have represented many police officers in personal and practical ways.
We have dedicated experts in a wide range of specialist legal services which enables us to provide our clients with a bespoke end-to-end seamless service, for all their legal needs.
Slater and Gordon’s highly specialised personal injury team has dedicated experts who’ve represented those injured as a result of road traffic collisions, terrorist attacks and abuse, specialising not only in civil claims, but also representation at inquests and inquiries.
We also work closely with a number of charities, such as RoadPeace, Aftermath Support, Brake and Victim Support to provide the best possible legal representation to those individuals they support.
Civil claims
Many officers will have experienced the despair faced by survivors and their families due to unforeseen circumstances. Sometimes this will unfortunately include pressures faced as a result of injury or death. The justice system can be hard to navigate and on occasion it’s necessary to seek redress through a civil claim.
We have highly specialised road collisions, abuse law and terrorist attack teams who’ve been representing clients for decades. We have a strong reputation for achieving outstanding results and have been involved in some of the most high-profile and ground-breaking cases in recent years.
We work with some of the field’s leading case managers, rehabilitation and treatment providers in the UK to ensure the treatment received is the best available and seek early interim payments as a key part of our strategy to ensure there's funding to begin as soon as possible, giving our clients the best chance to maximise recovery and future independence.
Independent legal guides such as Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 have ranked our teams highly over the years and consider many of our experts to be leaders in their field. Additionally, we've also won and been shortlisted in a number of prestigious legal awards over the years such as the Personal Injury Awards, Manchester Legal Awards, Modern Claim Awards, Wales Legal Awards and the Liverpool Law Society Awards.
Inquest representation
In the tragic event of a death due to a road collision or terror attack, our dedicated team of lawyers specialise in inquest representation. Our specialist inquest lawyers have represented families at inquests for many years and understand the worries and concerns faced at what can be an extremely difficult time.
Our lawyers can guide clients through the process and ensure any questions they have surrounding the death of their loved one is addressed with sympathy and understanding and will ensure that events are thoroughly investigated. We recognise the important role played by police officers in supporting those affected. Where possible we will work with those officers to ensure that each person receives the best support available.
Inquiry representation
Our inquiries legal team has a large amount of expertise in providing representation at public inquiries and have represented clients at some of the most high-profile inquiries in recent years, such as the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Exploitation (IICSA), Grenfell Tower, Manchester Arena, 2017 Westminster Bridge and London Bridge terror attacks.
Our involvement in public inquiries comes in two parts:
- To ensure we provide the best possible representation through the proceedings, ensuring questions are raised and our clients understand exactly what happened and why.
- After finding out what worked and what didn’t work, we look at what can be implemented in the future, with organisations identified as having an involvement, to prevent anything like that happening again.
We’ve worked with police officers and family liaison teams for many years on a vast number of cases. These are some of the cases we’ve worked on over the years. In each case the role of the FLO or Roads Policing Officer was essential in helping to guide to essential support, charity and legal services.
