For 2021, the National Policing Family Liaison Executive Board will be hosting two National Policing Family Liaison Professional Development Events for Family Liaison Coordinators/Advisors, Family Liaison Officers and Senior Investigating Officers. Unlike previous years, these events will be held online over two separate days.
The aim of the National Policing Family Liaison Executive Board is to oversee the development and provision of an effective, appropriate and professional family liaison response by the police service, across all disciplines. By hosting these events on line, this allows a unique opportunity to invite as many participants as possible to attend, enabling participants to receive national updates in an effective manner, recognising everyone’s valuable time.
Over the past 18 months, despite the challenges faced by us all, we have continued to demonstrate the valuable contribution that Family Liaison makes to providing a victim focused policing service and to continue to protect the reputation of policing both across the UK and Internationally.
In order to ensure the continual professional development of police family liaison, in respect of an unexplained or violent death, including homicide, road or rail death and mass fatality, these on-line events will provide updates which will consist of:
• Changes in legislation, national and international guidance (including APP)
• Lessons Learned reports in respect of Family Liaison
• Public Enquiry Reviews
• Regional Updates
• Curriculum maintenance log
Guest speakers have been invited to cover the following subjects*:
• Officer/Staff health and wellbeing
• Domestic homicide reviews
• Deaths of UK Nationals abroad
• NHS Blood and Transplant services
• The work of the probation service
• The work of sudden.org and Brake
• Casualty Bureau
• The code of practice for victims of crime.
*Subject to confirmation
There will be an opportunity for questions throughout the on-line events which enables further engagement from participants.
