BWV has been one of policing’s silent success stories – but with success comes scale. This session introduces the series, details the rise of BWV in the UK and explores the challenge of managing and making sense of the mountain of footage generated each day,
Session 2 – Friday 11th July, 10am to 11:30am
Instant Insight: Streaming the streets.
Live-streaming BWV opens new possibilities for command, control and situational awareness – but also brings fresh questions about balancing that with privacy and oversight. This session examines how South Wales Police and West Midlands Police have opened up this capability and how it is re-shaping decision making at speed.
Session 3 – Tuesday 15th July, 2pm to 3:30pm
Shield to Spotlight: Support, Scrutiny and the truth in between.
BWV can protect and support officers through malicious complaints and is trusted by both staff and the public to be an impartial and unbiased view. But it also records the worst days, the mistakes and the moments of professional failure. This session explores the dual impact on those that wear the cameras.
Session 4 – Tuesday 22nd July, 10am to 11:45am
Beyond Borders and shaping the future: from fragmentation to innovation.
As officers travel to support each other in times of increased demand, the inability to seamlessly share BWV footage between forces creates real operational and legal challenges – ultimately affecting our service to our communities. This final session explores barriers overcome but continued challenges, and also the future of BWV, and how we can harness more benefits in efficiency and productivity.
