About the conference

This year, the NPCC Homicide Working Group will be returning to The Queens Hotel, Leeds to host the 2022 National Conference for Senior Investigating Officers.

In a world emerging from the Covid pandemic and returning to a new normality, and with early signs of homicide returning to pre-pandemic levels, the focus is on learning from shared investigative experience whilst adopting a reduction and homicide suppression mindset.

Delegates will hear from a broad range of guest speakers who will present on some of the most challenging investigations undertaken in recent years. The focus will be on investigative learning and potential considerations for future homicide reduction.

This year’s case studies will include:

• Operation Sandpiper – the investigation into extensive mortuary abuse committed by double murderer David Fuller

• Operation Mansell – the cold case re-investigation into the 1994 murder of six year-old Ricki Neave

• Operation Kayak – the cold case investigation into double murderer Ian Stewart

Why should you attend?

SIOs perform one of the most challenging roles in policing and are under high levels of scrutiny both locally and nationally. It is imperative those undertaking this role keep abreast of the latest investigative developments, techniques and tools available to support them in their work. Police forces are encouraged to support both current and aspiring SIOs to attend this highly regarded conference as part of their continuing professional development.

This year’s programme delivers an abundance of opportunities to learn from Senior Investigating Officers, police leaders and experts about complex and high-profile investigations.

The conference aims to deliver an inspiring investigative insight into cases, with a particular emphasis on learning and continuous improvement which will provide you with frameworks and best practice for current and future investigations.

Please note the conference sessions will be closed with access to law enforcement only.
